Summer Battery Tips

While Pedego is confident in our battery safety, even with the best cells and top certification, proper care and attention should always be taken. We want you to enjoy your ride this summer and for many summers to come. We have a few battery tips that will help to ensure your battery is kept in the best condition possible.

To ensure e-bike battery safety during the summer, avoid direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, overcharging, and store the battery in a cool, dry place. Properly storing and handling your e-bike battery can help maintain its lifespan and prevent potential hazards.

Key Summer E-bike Battery Safety Tips:

Avoid Direct Sunlight:  UV rays can damage the battery casing and heat over the long term can lead to reduced charging capacity.

Transporting:  When transporting your ebike, take the battery off the bike. Simple but smart.

Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Ideal storage temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C. Avoid sheds, or car trunks, as these can heat up significantly in the summer.

Don’t Leave in a Hot Car:  Car interiors can reach extreme temperatures, which can damage the battery.

Charge in a Cool Environment:  Charge your battery indoors, ideally in a temperature-controlled space, and avoid charging it in direct sunlight or near heat sources.

Charge in a Safe Environment:  If possible, charge your battery 1.5m or more way from flammable materials.

Avoid Overcharging:  Use the charger provided with your Pedego e-bike. Unplug the battery once fully charged to help prolong the life of the battery.

Let the Battery Cool Down:  Avoid charging immediately after a long ride; let the battery cool down and come to room temperature before charging.

Be Mindful of Riding Conditions:  Avoid riding for extended periods in extreme heat. Consider riding in the cooler parts of the day. This tip is not only good for your battery – it is important for your safety as well.

Inspect Regularly:  Check for signs of overheating, such as a hot battery casing, unusual odors, or a shortened range.

Store at 30-40% Charge for Long-Term Storage:  For extended periods of non-use, store your battery in a clean, dry environment that has a temperature between 4 and 25 degrees Celsius. It’s best stored between 30-40 per cent charge. Avoid storing 100% charge.

Following these simple tips will help ensure that you and your Pedego ebike will have many years of fun. We hope you have a safe and fun summer. We’d love to be a part of your summer adventures, be sure to tag us on Instagram or Facebook.
