Explore Canada’s Capital on a Pedego Electric Bike – Hello fun, Ottawa!
April 15, 2023
Pedego Ottawa is located right in the heart of Ottawa’s historic hub, ByWard Market. With so many unique shops and delicious eateries, why would anyone venture beyond this delightful part of the capital city?
We answer that it is because Ottawa offers so many great historic and fun sights that you can easily explore with an electric bike to get you there. A Pedego ebike is one of the best ways to tour a city. It saves you on parking, allows you to zip around with easy stops, and leaves you energy to enjoy the night life.
Pedego Ottawa offers electric bike rentals for tourists looking to discover new sites and locals wanting to experience a new ride. All rentals include a lock, helmet and safety instructions. Let’s roll!
Ottawa boasts nearly 1,000 km of bike ways throughout the city and is consistently voted one of the most bike able cities in Canada. At Pedego Ottawa, we love all the options available in our city from urban rides to trails to expert mountain biking.
Here are a few places we regularly recommend to riders:
Rideau Canal is one of the oldest historic sites in the city and an obvious landmark not to be missed. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Bike paths line both sides of the Rideau and offer a great vantage point to take it all in. The paths are shared with pedestrians so ride with care along the windy trail and expect crowds to thin past Dow’s Lake, a great place to pause. Get further than you would on foot continuing on to Hogg’s Back Park where you can find picnic spots and a lookout over the falls.
The Parliament Buildings are near our Pedego Ottawa store right across the Rideau Canal and near the National War Memorial, Canadian Museum of Nature, and National Gallery of Canada. What incredible company we keep!? All these sites offer valuable learning experiences depending on your interests. We love the feeling of being on the hill in front of the nation’s capital building, the perspective given at our museums and the incredibly inspiring works of art displayed with intention at the national gallery.
Voyageurs Pathway offers a great bike ride, an escape from the immediate downtown and the best views back over the Parliament Buildings and city centre. Start in Gatineau or join up at Portage Bridge to pedal west along the Quebec (or north) side of the Ottawa River. This is a traditional Indigenous pathway that became a reliable multi-use transportation route. Just past the Champlain Bridge, you can see the rare stromatolites fossils. Further along, enjoy the views looking out on the Deschênes Rapids. Pedal far as you explore, not worried about the energy needed to get back. You can even roll into the Canadian Museum of History before returning to ByWard Market.
Ottawa is filled with fantastic places to dine. The Luxe Blooms Flower Cafe opened up last summer just down the street from us at 254 Dalhousie. It’s the perfect romantic date spot for a coffee, lunch, dessert or cocktail. The menu is delectable and the bright pink flowers from floor to ceiling are just as delicious. Don’t forget a boquet to go! Also new and fantastic near our Pedego Ottawa shop is Ratatouille Bistro. Enjoy casual fine dining with this family-owned French-fusion restaurant focusses on local seasonal flavours. We also love YKO Chicken for the best barbeque. You must not be afraid to get sticky fingers when enjoying this deliciousness. Fun options beyond our immediate community are Ottawa’s Tavern on the Falls and Tavern at the Gallery. Great locations! Great gourmet hot dogs!
At Pedego Ottawa, we are cyclists ourselves. One of our favourite things to do is to jump on our ebikes and explore. We are always happy to share our latest best ride. Ask us!
