Prince Edward County (PEC) has been described as one of Ontario’s great escapes. With more than 35 wineries, strong arts and culture scene, restaurants, celebrations, parks and beaches, it’s no wonder! Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, the seemingly island-like paradise is just a short drive from Toronto and Kingston for a quick day-long excursion or, even from Ottawa for weekend getaway. No matter where you are from, you will want to stay at least one night with so many cute accommodations providing a welcoming rest.
What should you do once you get there? Start to finish, this is a guaranteed great day:
Your first stop should be Prince Edward County Pedego just off Highway 33 at 39 Stanley St. Unit C in Bloomfield. Pedego is located in the centre of the region with great access in all four directions. You’ll find Pedego Prince Edward County right at the middle of the Millennium Trail, a 46-kilometre multi-use trail stretching across the “island.” You can easily explore east or west – but how to choose?!

The towns of Wellington and Picton are most well known in Prince Edward County. To be honest, you could visit both if you have the time. Your ebike will give you energy. But in case you want to go to one over the other. This is a quick overview.
Wellington:
Farmers’ market (Saturdays 8-1 p.m.) – fresh, local foods and creations
Art studios – several around the vibrant community. You can look for blue Arts Trail signs out in front of participating studios and galleries.
Smaller community en route to western wine region
Fantastic Mexican at La Condesa open for lunch if you’re hungry
The Piccolina Mercato for an authentic Italian coffee experience
Picton:
Farmers’ market (Sunday 9-1 p.m.) – fresh, local foods and creations
Great restaurants such as Parsons brewery with great food, Sand & Pearl for seafood brunch or dinner and The Vic, a retro diner with a modern flair.
The Bean Counter for a great cup of coffee and fresh-baked goodies
The June – as seen on TV – great place to rest your head if you’re planning this as a weekend getaway
A bit bigger than Wellington with connection to Sandbanks Provincial Park and Sandbanks Dunes Beach

While there are wineries all over Prince Edward County, most are located in the western part of the region. This area is also rich with nature. Enjoy the scenery, walks, birds and aquatic life. There are so many options but here are a few that take you in different directions.
Wine Country
This region is known for fantastic Pino Noir and Chardonnay due to growing grapes in limestone-rich soils
Hinterland Winery: premium sparkling wines made in traditional French fashion
Rosehall Run is one of the regions original wineries
Traynor Family Vineyard with its two priorities of family and sustainability
Nature Exploring
Sandbanks Provincial Park – This oceanfront park offering the world’s biggest sand dune system and a freshwater sand bar. Water is warm – inner and outer beach… Over thousands of years, wind, currents have brought sand to the shore – underwater sand bar. Now, cuts off Lake Ontario. West Lake bar is 8 km long.
Lake on the Mountain – If you head past Picton along Picton Bay on Highway 33, you will find the most amazing scenery and walking trails. If you have a fishing rod, pack it on your bike. Lake on the Mountain is a popular fishing spot for bass and pike.

Prince Edward County is a haven for art galleries thanks to the creative folks of this region. From rustic to refined and at all price points, you can explore, appreciate, and even buy!
PEC is also rich in soil and therefore rich in history with early settlers arriving during the late 1800s built a thriving agriculture community. There are many local museums keeping this history alive. There are many to discovery. Check out some of these gems:
Local Art
Mad Dog Gallery features local artists at its beautiful location. Check out the gardens and enjoy the hospitality. This gallery is on County Road 11.
The Yellow Studio is right in Picton and you can’t miss it with its bright yellow door. Inside you will find handmade pottery made in house.
Arts on Main Gallery is also right in Picton and is a co-op gallery staffed by artist members.
For something a little different, take note of the barn quilts mounted to buildings throughout PEC. Note how the patterns vary and are each carefully chosen by the family farm owners.
Local History
The Regent Theatre, a restored Edwardian opera house in Picton
Macaulay Heritage Park’s renowned 19th-century architecture. The restored Macaulay House was built in 1830. You can also tour the former Church of St. Mary Magdalene. This park is in Picton.
Mariners Park Museum captures the history of sea life, including fishing, ship building, boat races and even rum running. Local shipwrecks are also on display. Travel south along County Road 10.
The Wellington Heritage Museum features changing local history exhibits. Originally built as a Quaker Meeting house in 1885, this bit of local history is located in Wellington.

Antiquing in Prince Edward County is sure to find you the second-hand treasure you never knew you needed. Shops are dotted throughout PEC and the building is often as fun as the items sold inside. Maybe a music festival is more your scene? Mark your calendar! Music lovers, this is your time to tour PEC. Antiquing
Stowaway Vintage – For a fun stop check out this shop owned by a family who doesn’t take itself very seriously. There’s even a vintage toy train running through the old barn’s rafters.
Dead People’s Stuff Antiques – “Polished rustic meets upscale repurposing.” What dead person’s stuff do you want?!
MacCool’s Re-Use – You won’t be able to take that piece of mid-century modern furniture on your ebike. There are limits. Discover small treasures or go back with your gas powered pick up later to grab the perfect item.
