Meet Yasmin, a passionate cyclist from Nelson, BC, whose love for biking has been a lifelong journey. Yasmin won this year’s spring GoByBikeBC’s prize from Pedego Canada – a Pedego Avenue ebike.

A Lifelong Love for Cycling

From childhood fun rides to university commutes, Yasmin’s dedication to cycling has only grown stronger over the years.

Her cycling story began in her childhood, riding around for fun. As she grew older, biking became her primary mode of transportation to university.

“Twenty years ago, there were no bike routes in the city I lived in, but I made up my own, and I notice now that they made those same routes into official bike routes, which is so great,” says Yasmin.

This transformation is a testament to her pioneering spirit and the growing recognition of cycling as a vital mode of transportation.

Cycling as a Primary Mode of Transportation

Today, Yasmin prefers biking over driving whenever possible. Whether it’s commuting to work or running errands, she finds biking more interesting and often faster than driving, thanks to shortcuts and quicker parking.

It also brings Yasmin joy as she benefits from cycling’s healthy contribution to her life! The exhilaration she feels upon arriving at work and the stress relief at the end of the day are significant benefits of her cycling routine.

“I love the pace of cycling; fast enough that I can be efficient in my day but slow enough that I can see hidden gems that I may miss if I were in a vehicle,” she says.

A Long-Time Participant in GoByBike Week

Yasmin has been participating in GoByBike Week for more than a dozen years. She recalls the early days when there were fewer cyclists on the road, compared to the bustling biking community today. This growth reflects the increasing popularity and acceptance of cycling as a mainstream mode of transportation. It’s something Yasmine is excited to see.

Winning the Pedego Avenue Ebike

When Yasmin found out she had won a Pedego Avenue ebike, she was in disbelief. It took her several reads of the email to realize it was true. This win was particularly special as it was her first brand-new bike in thirty years, having relied on hand-me-downs for so long.

“Going around to people’s home on a regular bike was not feasible. With the ebike I can zip around efficiently and feel just as productive in my day. It usually brings a smile to the patient’s faces and is a good conversation starter,” she says.
